Escape CatNap by avoiding gas and planning a retreat

To escape CatNap in Escape from Playtime, avoid his gas and use alternate routes and hiding opportunities to retreat. Do not rely on climbing out of reach: he pursues gas-affected players even when they are unreachable and keeps sight of players on higher ground.

02

Enemy CatNap and playable Mini CatNap

Mini CatNap is a playable Smiling Critter available from the start of the Early Access game. Hostile CatNap is the factory experiment you must evade, and selecting the miniature does not give you control of that monster or his pursuit abilities. Keep that distinction in mind when choosing your character and planning how to handle the chase.

03

How to prepare for and handle the chase

  1. Check your Sketch-A-Map before exploring farther so you can locate Barry and your teammates within the surrounding area.
  2. Choose an alternate way out while exploring a room, giving yourself a retreat if your usual path becomes dangerous.
  3. Move away from CatNap's gas rather than continuing to search through it, avoiding the exposure that allows him to pursue affected players even when they are unreachable.
  4. Use an alternate route or hiding opportunity to seek separation from CatNap, treating cover as a chance to evade him rather than a guaranteed end to pursuit.
  5. Continue your retreat instead of waiting on an elevated perch, because CatNap can maintain sight of players on higher ground.
  6. Take the exit hatch once your team meets the quota; it opens automatically, allowing you to leave instead of risking another search for loot.
04

Plan around the layout in your current run

The factory's layout changes between runs, so build your retreat around the rooms and connections you actually find. The Sketch-A-Map shows your surroundings, teammates and Barry, while Glowsticks can help mark the way back. Use those navigation tools before a chase leaves you choosing unfamiliar corridors under pressure.

Check that you can fit through a narrow passage before making it your escape plan. Running, jumping and climbing consume stamina, so consider the movement still needed after a climb. Reaching a high surface is less useful if you have exhausted yourself and CatNap still has sight of you.

05

Why CatNap keeps following you

Being beyond CatNap's immediate reach does not prevent him from pursuing a gas-affected player. He also acquires his target earlier in his attack animation, making a late retreat a poor bet. Start withdrawing before the attack rather than waiting on a perch for him to lose interest.

06

Recover after a teammate falls

Use a Sewing Kit to revive a fallen teammate when you can reach them safely. Poppy-gel injections provide healing, so treat revival and restoring health as separate needs. Check the remaining time and your route out before attempting a rescue, and prioritize escaping if the attempt would endanger the rest of the team.

Returning from the facility after a shift fully restores your health and flashlight battery. Use the break to regroup and discuss where the retreat went wrong. Before heading back in, agree on how you will communicate danger and find each other if another chase separates the group.
